New to this adventure? Start from the beginning! Nurturers, When was the last time you changed your mind about something? Do you remember? Did it take only a second or was it a slow transition where one day you were eating blue cheese and you were like: “oh. Hmm. I finally see the appeal.”? When I […]

Dear Nurturers, I’m pregnant. With an idea. I’ve been debating exactly how to break the news to you and the world at large that this thing that has existed inside me as a tiny spark has now been fanned with effort, love, attention and just the right amount of the miraculous to start showing in […]

Today's category is...Lotions and Potions!

@sundayscompany Mel is magic. While she does sell her wares online, her PERFECT store in Warkworth, ON is worth the drive, no matter where in the world you live!

@bloembotanicals Sarah is the best marriage of soulful attention and practical plant education. I've personally been transformed by her offerings and am in danger of adding everything in her store to my cart.

@7csalts Katelyn's business origin story stopped me in my tracks and instantly made me grateful her soul is on this planet. I have turned to her products on my harder days and they have helped turn my day around, they are that full of her love.

Plantiful (not on Insta) Amy was one of my earliest collaborators. It's been a treat to watch her business grow into the bustling hub that it is today and her products have honest to goodness healing properties.

@moonshotsoap Becka's soap is so good. The one I have smells like jasmine and was the scent soundtrack to my summer.

@sunfireherbals Tahlia facilitated at the very first Nurture. I have always been in awe of her passion and resourcefulness when it comes to what grows and what you can make with it!

@aidebodycare Michelle is one of my fave store owners to follow on Insta- she is hilarious, deeply motivated by community and has a store full of curated treats for your body and soul.

@wildbynature.to I've visited Maria's urban garden ONCE and have never forgotten its magic. Her archetype boxes full of homegrown plant magic are a GENIUS gift idea.

@threeincheshigh Kat and I had one of the best entrepreneur 'first dates' I've ever had. That same good energy is in everything she makes - you'll want to keep dating her products.

@stresslessnaturals I am often in awe of Brett's humility, transparency and business bravery. Her products carry this same spirit.

These people are just as magical as the products they make. Get to know them and our whole creative community in other categories by visiting The Nurture Marketplace!

Today's category is....Sweets & Treats!

I feel like by now you all know how I feel about food. Each of the folks in this category use food as a tool for expression, community building and making life tastier:

@madam_bonbon Sara's chocolates could just as easily be in an art gallery as in her cute Hamilton storefront (or in my belly, which is where they are VERY happy).

@no7hotsauce Since we met in 2016, I have personally poured Sandra and Carlos' delicious, preservative free sauces on everything, including myself. They're hot in every sense of that word.

@thecookieplayhouse Chef Andrea attended the first ever Nurture and now she makes the best tasting (and most whimsically custom designed) BROWN BUTTER shortbread I've ever had.

@cookerystore Alison sponsored the very first ever Nurture gift bags and I have never forgotten her generosity when I was just starting out. Her store is now an empire of culinary delights, with multiple locations and exactly everything on my personal chef wish list.

@spiceandgreen Mel is the person I turn to for culinary solidarity in my DMs. She is also a rockstar spice blender, deadpan humour twin mom, nutritional consultant and deeply delightful soul.

Got someone in your circle who loves to eat or cook? I invite you to check out these incredible shops where the people behind them are just as nourishing as the products they make. Get to know them and our whole creative community in other categories by visiting The Nurture Marketplace!
Welcome to The Nurture Marketplace! A cozy virtual Welcome to The Nurture Marketplace! A cozy virtual home that @stephpellett and I created to celebrate the community we've built at Nurture over the past almost NINE years. Part archive, part community builder and one stop shop for meaningful gift giving.

Dear incredible creatives, makers and artisans who have collaborated with Nurture in meaningful ways over the years, either through contributions to our retreat Care Kits, or providing your talents as workshop facilitators or photographers: I am SO BLESSED by you. Consider this marketplace a place of thanks - for believing in and directly supporting this Nurture idea from a tiny seedling into the fruitful orchard of kindred spirits it is today.

I want to cast my vote actively for the healing benefits of community. I want to prioritize getting to know the humans we live with, work with and shop from, personally.

Owning a small business right now is hard. The antidote, I believe, is a circular economy - one of mutual support, celebration and love. I want to introduce you to these incredible people! Over the next 7 days, we'll be featuring each collaborator by the categories you see here, with a hearty invitation to check out the shop for all your gifting needs 🎁

Importantly, this is not an affiliate marketplace. Rather, it is simply a thrill to showcase the talent that Nurture has had the honour to collaborate with, and put their incredible offerings in one space so you can shop and make connections with like-minded folk with ease. If you give them a visit, tell them Nurture sent you!

The Nurture Marketplace is full of businesses with heart, with REAL people behind them - folks whose products and services are full of soul, intention and integrity, built for you and those you love. Thanks for visiting and happy browsing!

p.s. Did you contribute to the retreat and don't see your business featured? Let me know! I am but a human who kept terrible records until @stephpellett came along. I'd also like to take this moment to acknowledge my gratitude for the (sadly, many) businesses that contributed to Nurture who are no longer active. ❤️

I am picturing you reading this and it makes me sm I am picturing you reading this and it makes me smile. Thanks for being here. I'm pouring us a cup of something hot (It's cider. It's been mulling on the stove all day with cinnamon, allspice and orange peel). We're both sitting on the kind of comfy couch that is part cloud, part lumbar support - it holds us, but it lets us (and anywhere that aches) sink into its pillowy depths. Our hearts unbuckle. We both grab a still-warm cookie from the tray at arms' reach (brown butter cowboy cookies that bring out an inner yee-haw of delight) and settle in for the kind of conversation that rivers. It meanders at a leisurely clip and lingers in deep pools where it matters. You ask me about what I'm up to, how I'm feeling, and what's lighting me up, and I ask you the same.

What I'm up to:

Searching for kindred spirits in my new city; ignoring my dirty dishes until I have a snit; grieving difficult anniversaries of personal loss; designing menus for incredible people, signing petitions and writing my representatives in support of a ceasefire; embroidering our Nurture napkins; planning my wedding; moving my best friend to Hamilton and getting used to that commute; cooking for nuns; enjoying my chili crisp era; learning how to quilt; finding the perfect people to fill the last two spots at Nurture (is this you? I hope it's you.)

How I'm feeling:

Cozy - it's Fall, my favourite season. Numb, horrified, keening - it's genocide. Grateful - it's a privilege to be surrounded by the best people whom I hold so dear.

What's lighting me up:

Butter my sister brought me back from Ireland; baths while someone else makes dinner; owl videos; work that I adore; Regency romance novels leaning towards erotica; the hint of holiday season in the air; elevator kisses; my friend's new baby; when you write me back.

I would love to hear from you, support you and be in community with you. What are you up to? How are you feeling? What's lighting you up?
